I am so beyond frustrated right now. Why can my medically fragile child not get a potentially lifesaving vaccine? I find out they are making appointments again this morning, but I feel like I'm trying to get into a popular concert. Pushing redial every 30 seconds because the phone is busy. Online they show that everything is booked already. I finally get a hold of someone at Smiths pharmacy that does have the vaccine, but they by law can only do ages 13 and up.
UUgghh.....
My pediatrician said the other day the the virus right now is on the downward slope, but it will be back so he needs the vaccine. And just to watch the news and find out when we can get appointments again. But I knew that even when they opened up I would never be able to get through to someone. I actually just called her and left her a message because she's out of the office today. But I told her that I can't believe my medically fragile child cannot get this vaccine. And that I'm quite frustrated that her office didn't take the initiative to get the vaccine at their clinic. She told me the reason they don't have it is because the paperwork was long and they didn't get it done. Nice, I hope that doesn't directly affect my baby. Thanks for nothing.
So you better believe that when we go up to the hospital today for our follow up trach appointment with ENT, he'll be wearing his mask. Since no one will help me protect him.
Ok, now that my rant is done, I wanted to post this video this morning, then got on my quest to find this vaccine for my children. Its one of my favorite music videos. It has a hidden message (sort of) but I thought it was cool, and that even if you don't have a medically fragile child, you never know what life will bring you. Live it to the fullest, hug family and friends often, and always lend a helping hand, even to people you don't know.
I don't know why it has the words on the bottom in a different language, just ignore them.

This is crazy! You of all people, should be able to get the flu shot for your precious children.
I guess if you were a billionaire at Goldman Sachs this wouldn't be a problem.
When we got our appts last week I linked to the slvhealth.org website thru www.fox13now.com - it didn't work to go directly into the slvhealth site - it was too overloaded I think. GOOD LUCK!
Ah, I'm so sorry! Parker has had the first round which we had to drive up to Tooele for. He still needs round two next week. Guess what we'll spend the week trying to get? He has to get this second round at least a week before he goes up for surgery.
I hope you can get this for your sweet boy. BTW, the Wall Street Big Wigs all got THEIR vaccines. erg.
And I ran downstairs and found the trach ties and saw that a note saying they were from you! THANK YOU! I'm saving them for after Parker's trach revision surgery for something fun. *smooch*
Where do you live at? I am in Davis County and if you want to drive to the Bountiful Events center you can have one of my childs tickets. They have had the 1st dose and I will find another time to take one of them in. I really am serious. Friday 9am. Email me

Well, our phone conversation caught us up but still wanted to pop on and send my love.
You know how I feel about the vaccine thing so I won't go off on that, too much, ... needless to say I'm scouring the county for round two ... to no avail.I too think I'll head to Wall Street.Like I said,Lord knows we want those people healthy so they can screw more people over and out of their hard earned money .. sorry.Just had to say that.
Okay sister, I just went through this battle for Jonah, trying to get him a vaccine that he desperatly needed. Though mine was synagis to protect from RSV it is the same difference. Why are OUR children being left out when they are the ONES who need it the most? It P$#@$ me off to no end! Its so wrong. I am sorry that you are now playing this game. My advise...I would threaten media attention if it is not handled this week. I know sounds wierd but I almost garuntee that if you were to bring this up to the media people would also be furious. YOU cant help the fact that your child can't go wait in line, risking him to go back into the hospital. UGGG! I am so tired of all the rule and guidlines. These should not be set for children who are medically fragile. Ok sorry for my ranting. I loved the video. 8)
First of all, I can totally relate about the vaccine situation. It was a major frustration when I repeatedly called the pediatrician to have them deny Nathan based on his insurance carrier.
Secondly, LOVED the video.
Unbelievable! The one who should be the first on the list, can't get one, Don't you just love it!
Emmie just lucked out, she had an appointment last Thursday and the office just happened to get a delivery Wednesday night. Otherwise she wouldn't have it yet either. she gets round two on Dec 12th, but I'll believe that when I see it!
Good Luck, will be praying!!
Oh man... what a nightmare. I sure hope he can get the vaccine soon! Love the video too, thanks for sharing!
Sorry that this is such a pain for you!
I guess we were very blessed, because Gavin got his H1N1 shot today at his school. We had conferences today and the health department was there giving injections for all the students that wanted to get one. They didn't sound too confident about being able to get the second dose in 4 weeks, but at least he's half protected.
I hope Jax can get one soon! Of all people, he definitely should be getting one! Hugs!
I am beyond frustrated about the vaccine too. We just got the call that Marissa's ped got some and they are holding one for Marissa. Before that, we were planning on going to the public shot clinic that is going to be held tomorrow. So glad we don't have to do that.
But I have been frustrated b/c this is the first clinic our county has been able to hold b/c they have did not get the shipments they were expecting last month. All the while, smaller surrounding counties have been holding multiple clinics for the last month. And you have to show proof of residency in that county to get their shots. The uneven distribution is almost criminal!! I will be praying that Jax can get his soon.
Thanks for sharing the video. The first time I saw it was when I was in the midst of my difficult pregnancy with Marissa and we weren't sure if she was going to make it long enough to be born, let alone be born healthy. I bawled like a baby when I saw it. Very touching message. We all have an unknown number of days. And showing kindness and goodness to others is good for the soul.
We got the H1N1, but getting our RSV has been our issue this year. I guess it's always something.
I'm in the same boat. Tried again today - and I too feel like I am calling a radio station to win some big prize - but no just a shot. Still don't have it - I am on the waiting list at my doctor's office and I am hoping they will pull through for me. I also called Harmons, Smiths and found out the same thing - frustrating!! Good luck over there with yours - we are going to keep trying around here too!
I'm sold on getting the vaccine for Ralphie, but no way in heck am I waiting in a petri dish of a line with him! There HAS to be a better way for medically fragile people to get this!
How far are you from Davis County? Many of my neighbors have had a lot of luck getting it around here.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you can get it soon. Keep up the fight and hopefully a door will open for you soon. I was lucky to get it for Wysdom last week. Can't they book you now for the next round of appointments so that you don't miss it? Ugh I feel your frustration.
I'm right there with you. I've been wanting to get it to protect Kaelyn, but it just seems IMPOSSIBLE to find. I wish they had a place for people to go who REALLY need it to get it.
